8 Hour Battle of Okinawa Tour

Tour Description

This eight-hour tour will allow you to trace the Battle of Okinawa. We will start in Yomitan Village with stops at both Toguchi Beach, where some of the American forces landed, and a visit to a cave where Okinawans hid during the war. We will then move south following the path of American forces to Kakazu Takadai Park in Ginowan City where the fighting became more intense. Next, we will eat lunch at a local restaurant. We will then move south to visit the Okinawa Army Hospital, Haebaru Bunker #20. Here we will be able to enter a man-made tunnel created by the Japanese military and Okinawan civilians, which was used as a military hospital. Next, we will visit the Himeyuri Monument and Peace Museum in Itoman, to learn about the role of young schoolgirls forced to be nurses during the Battle. Our final stop will be the Okinawa Peace Prayer Park, where you can visit the Cornerstone of Peace memorializing all who died during the Battle of Okinawa. ** Entry into the Haebaru Bunker #20 is by appointment only. If we are unable to get an appointment, we will change our location to another Battle of Okinawa related site. Cost:16,000 Yen per Person This fee covers: Pick up and drop off at the Urasoe Maeda Monorail Station Transportation and all transportation related fees Your guided tour Additional Costs: 1,000-2,000 Yen for lunch (depending on your order) 300 Yen/Person for the Haebaru Bunker #20 450 Yen/Person for the Himeyuri Monument and Peace Museum Additional money for any souvenirs or purchases Activity Level: This tour includes moderate physical activity. We will walk up stairs and on uneven walking surfaces. Some stops will include slightly longer distances at a leisurely pace (less than half a mile) or extended periods of standing (up to an hour).
